Drive Systems, Convenient Compact Velocity Control
for Brushless DC Motors

 

Compact Velocity Control Drive Systems for Brushless DC Motors are intended for speed and direction control (not position control). They are ideal wherever there is a need for compact size, ease of installation, rugged endurance, and simple adjustment.

These systems fall into two product families:
Standalone Units.
In aluminum case enclosures, they can be field mounted in remote locations, or they can be factory mounted and connected directly to SL-MTI motors.
  Integrated Units.
Factory mounted and connected inside SL-MTI motor enclosures, they are virtually invisible from the outside.

Both product families include:
Open or Closed Loop Speed Control.
In accord with customer choice, they are preset for one configuration or the other.
  Speed adjustment with either a remote Potentiometer or a remote DC Voltage Command Signal. Again in accord with customer choice, they are preset for one configuration or the other.
  Clockwise/Counterclockwise Rotational Direction Control.
  Lead Connections for:
    ° Remote Forward / Reverse Selector Switch
      ° Remote Speed Control Potentiometer OR
      ° Remote DC Voltage Command Signal

Definitions:
Closed Loop Control: Speed remains constant under varying load conditions.
  Open Loop Control: Speed remains constant when load is constant, and moderately varies when load varies.

Standalone Units include:
Plug and Run Capability. Factory preset for the selected SL-MTI motor. No need to adjust internal parameters. No programming required. Simple to install and ready for operation. Minimizes overall purchase and installation costs. When ordered in a unit-mounted configuration, all interconnections between motor and drive are completed prior to shipment.
  High Power Density. Up to 1500 watts of output power, 35 Amperes of continuous current, and 50 Amperes of peak current.
  Rugged Integrated Circuit Components and Construction provide high reliability under adverse conditions.
  High Commutation Frequency. At 3.33 kHz, 100,000 RPM is achievable with a 4 pole motor.
  Full Motor Load Starting Capability.
  Hall Sensor Feedback. Utilizes three-phase Hall sensor feed back signals for motor commutation.
  Tachometer Output Signal. A digital pulse signal proportional to motor speed is available to provide system feedback information.
  Over Current Protection. An internal limit circuit protects both motor and drive from over-current conditions.
  Compact Protective Enclosure. A durable anodized aluminum case shields electronic components from harmful environmental elements. It is thermally designed to maximize heat dissipation. Mounted to a metal structure, this enclosure becomes a convenient heat sink. Dimensions: 2.9 X 2.9 X 1.8 inches (74 X 74 X 46 mm)
  Dynamic Brake Capability (optional).
  Thermal Protection (optional).

Integrated Units include:

  Installed inside the SL-MTI motor enclosure, it is invisible from the outside. The motor enclosure protects the electronic components from harmful environmental elements. Heat is dissipated into the motor nclosure. Mounted to a metal structure, the motor enclosure becomes a convenient heat sink.
